Edwards is #1 on the Browns board

I talked to Tony Rizzo on thesportsking.com yesterday. He told me that his sources with the Browns have WR Braylon Edwards listed as the #1 overall prospect on the Browns big board. The Browns are “fighting their guts out” to trade down (how could we have a draft day and not refer to Butchie?), but it may depend on Alex Smith and the Niners. If they don’t have an agreeement in place with him by Noon today (EST), they may take Rodgers and Smith could fall to the Browns at #3, as the Dolphins WILL NOT (despite their pathetic smokescreens) take a QB at #2 as they have too much invested in Feeley. They’ll take a RB (Ronnie Brown) and then Smith will be there at #3. Then the phone calls from Tampa will begin. Let’s hope Tom Condon (Smith’s agent) plays a little hardball and the Niners are their cheap selves – the Browns may get their wish if this happens.

Let’s just end this season tonight

I, for one, would rather the Cavaliers just lose tonight (or Nets win) and focus on getting their next coach, G.M., and free agents rather than make the postseason with this horribly dysfunctional team and get their asses handed to them in the playoffs. Getting swept by Miami won’t make LeBron a better player — giving him a good coach and surrounding him with good players will. The second half of this season has been a total disaster — it’s time to put this old sick dog to sleep and concentrate on next season.

Once again, Wedge proves his mediocrity

Three times this team has the bases loaded with less than two outs and not once do they score. What does Wedge do? Nothing, as usual. They might as well have a wooden doll in the dugout, as Wedge hasn’t done a thing to shake this offense out of its early season woes. Has this guy ever heard of a squeeze bunt? A double steal? A hit and run? The manager is the leader of the team, if he sees the team struggling, he has to shake things up. Instead, Wedge sits on his hands, massaging his ugly mustache.

What happened to fundamentals?

A few years ago, Eric Wedge was this brilliant minor league manager that was in such demand that the Tribe overlooked a more experienced Joel Skinner to nab him. Three years later, all I see is an undisciplined, fundamentally-retarded baseball team. What was Cliff Lee thinking when he threw the ball into the stands? What was Broussard thinking when he bare-handed a slow grounder and didn’t go for the sure out? What was Boone thinking when he couldn’t simply move the runner over with NO OUTS? Could somebody tell the Indians spring training is over and these games actually count? I know it’s early, but it’s obvious thus far the White Sox and the Twins are better, hungrier, and play much smarter baseball than the Indians. It’s time for Wedge to start showing us why he was chosen to manage this team. The honeymoon is over.

What is Gilbert thinking?

I am so incredibly disgusted with new Cavaliers’ owner Dennis Gilbert. This guy obviously has some of the best QUICKEN P.R. people in the world…all we heard about when he first bought the Cavs was how great he was – Quicken was “the best place to work”…Gilbert’s people rolled out Quicken executives who talked of Gilbert’s supposed brilliance…yet here we are, and in a season that started with so much promise, Gilbert has basically snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (PLAYOFFS). First, this ass-clown fires Paul Silas, now there are grumblings about Paxson’s imminent firing. Why can’t he wait until the end of the season? He kind of reminds me of a guy who played fantasy sports his whole life and now that he’s been given a team, he’s managing it the same way he would his fantasy team. If this team doesn’t make the playoffs, the blame falls on one person – Gilbert.
