Ohio State needs to win with no “history”

The Ohio State basketball team is seeded #2 in the NCAA tournament, Big Ten Champions and looking forward to a promising future on the hard court. Thad Matta is a young coach and his early success already has other Big Ten programs turning their heads.

The football team has a National Championship, a couple recent Big Ten titles and a 4-1 record against the team up north. (Michigan) Jim Tressel is a perfect fit for a football program that values winning and tradition. He has brought a sense of pride back to the “Shoe”.

This being said, I think The Ohio State University needs to button up their process with rules and regulations. The University has an alarming amount of recent violations.
The University needs to strive for success that will never be taken away again.

Cavs blow another 4th quarter lead

The Cleveland Cavaliers continued to struggle on the road, blowing a 15 point lead against the Miami Heat this afternoon and losing 98-92. Cleveland was leading the entire game until Miami went ahead in the fourth quarter and never looked back. Lebron James had 47 points, scoring from every angle on the court. Zydrunas Ilgauskas pitched in with 21 points and seven rebounds. James and Z continue to account for the majority of the offense, while the role players and bench continue to struggle. The Cavs will not go far in the playoffs without a better supporting cast.

Jurevicius comes home too

The Cleveland Browns and Phil Savage are doing a great job of selling the “hometown” players his theory of bringing pride and winning back to Cleveland. When Phil Savage joined the Browns he spoke of tradition, winning and attitude as three key elements that will bring this organization back its winning ways. The last two have come hard for the first few years of the “second” generation Browns. The team has struggled to find quality players and continually had to fight a string of bad luck with injuries.

The signing of LeCharles Bentley and Joe Jurevicius are great signs of the where this organization is heading. These are two quality players that could have found similar money in warm weather cities and teams with current winning records. Savage has a good football mind and is very upfront with players when negotiating deals. The last two signing have really made our offense a unit that has power, talent and stability. This will give Charlie Frye, whom I’m still nervous about, the same type of supporting cast Pittsburgh gave their quarterback (Ben Roethlisberger) to win in this league. The Browns will have to use the draft and the remaining dollars to shore a defense that put up some respectable numbers last year.

Indians talent want to stay in Cleveland

The Cleveland Indians and GM Mark Shapiro are changing the way players look at the organization. After recently signing Jhonny Peralta to a long term deal, Indians players are talking about Cleveland and not about how much money they will make. Shapiro and Eric Wedge have always stressed how essential it is to evaluate talent and character. The signings of Travis Hafner, C.C. Sabathia and Victor Martinez show that they are signing team players and quality talent.

Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore, both young rising stars in major league baseball, have openly expressed their desire to stay in Cleveland and play for this organization. Shapiro has been doing a great job of communicating with players and has a good name around the baseball world. If team president Paul Dolan does the right thing, the Indians could lock up a core of talent that may be better than the Kenny Lofton, Albert Belle and Omar Vizquel days. The next couple weeks may be pretty exciting for the future of Indians baseball.

Buckeyes in finals

The Ohio State Buckeyes led by J. J. Sullinger’s 19 points and 13 rebounds held off a late Indiana rally to win 52-51 and head to the Big Ten Championship game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Buckeyes won again, despite shooting a miserable 18% from 3 point range. This is the second game in a row Ohio State has struggled from long range.

The Buckeyes are pretty much assured at least a number 2 seed in the tournament, but many feel with a victory against Iowa, Ohio State will be a number 1 seed. The Bucks defense has lead them through this Big Ten tournament. They will need a strong showing on both sides of the ball to defeat the Hawkeyes and match the ladies Buckeyes, who were Champions in both the regular season and the tournament.
