OSU is early favorite for some

The college football spring practices are beginning and Ohio State is already getting national attention. The Buckeyes will have to be an offensive minded team and ride the backs of Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. to have success this year. The normally defensive minded Coach Jim Tressel with have to loosen the reigns and take some chances on offense to make a run at the title. The first challenge will be early in Texas, a chance for Ohio State to knock off the National Champions.

Cavs need to take care of business

The Cleveland Cavaliers need to go at least .500 for the last 16 games to pretty much assure themselves of the fourth seed and home court for the NBA playoffs. The Cavs are battling the Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards for the fourth, fifth and six spots. This year it will be critical to finish strong and secure home court. The last few weeks Cleveland has looked shaky, reminding us of last years collapse.
Lebron and the Cavs would get a huge boost of confidence by securing that spot and starting off at home for the playoffs. The Detroit Pistons are in our division, so this is really the best spot they could have expected when the season began. This should allow them to concentrate on the positives and go into the playoffs with a full head of steam.
If Larry Hughes returns, I fully expect Cleveland to advance to the second round and get some well needed playoff experience.

Browns sign another tight end

The Cleveland Browns are still making quiet moves to strengthen the offensive line for next year. The signing of Darnell Dinkins, a tight end that is known for blocking, is a good sign that Phil Savage is still putting his finishing touches on this team. This is another strong indication that Cleveland will be focusing on the defense for this year’s draft.

OSU plays Big Ten basketball

The Ohio State Buckeyes won a tough battle against a very competitive Davidson team in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Buckeyes are use to the rough style of basketball that is played in the Big Ten.

The referees called a tight game and some Davidson players accused Ohio State of trash talking. This is good news for the Buckeyes. Their next opponent, Georgetown, plays a very similar game and never lacks confident when they take the court. Terrance Dials and the rest of the Bucks will need a physical effort on both ends of the court to reach the Sweet Sixteen this year.

James is doing just fine

Lebron James is doing a great job of carrying the Cleveland Cavaliers on his back this year. He continually leads the team in scoring and rebounding, while the role players haven’t kept up their end of the bargain. I recently read an article where Charles Barkley and Brevin Knight were commenting on how James wasn’t at the level of Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson. I did a quick check in the NBA history books and I couldn’t find Barkley’s or Knight’s name under past NBA champions.

I still believe you judge a player on two things: how much he improves the team and the number of championships he wins. This being said, you must have at least two stars on a team to bring home NBA titles. If you look at past champions, you will find this to be the case. (Jordan/Pippen, Kobe/Shaq, Bird/Mchale, Magic/Jabbar)

The year the Los Angeles Lakers traded O’Neal, the Lakers became a .500 ball club. If you look at this year, comparing James to Bryant and Iverson, Lebron can stand side by side with both of them. I would agree that Iverson and Bryant, at this point in their careers, are pure shooters. James is a better all around player. He is a scorer, passer and rebounder. The NBA media likes to evaluate players on how many points they score. In the long run, Lebron’s team play will bring Cleveland the title. The Cavaliers need to continue to develop the supporting cast for this NBA great.
