Buckeye recruiting

After the fiasco in the National Championship game, most Buckeye fans were not pleases to hear that the football recruiting class only ranked in the mid-teens while schools like USC and Florida were at the top of the rankings.

That said, it was still a very solid class, and the following article will make you feel better. Bottom line – it’s very hard to predict which recruits will excel, and many of Ohio State’s best players over the past five years wer three-star recruits.

Cavs’ slide continues

The Cavaliers were subject to a rare home loss as they fell 87-71 to the Detroit Pistons Thursday night. LeBron led the Cavs with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists but it wasn’t enough as the Cavs got blown out in the fourth quarter. They were outscored 30-16 down the stretch and Cleveland’s inconsistencies continue.

It’s been three straight losses now and the Cavs need to figure something out. They’ll have a chance at redemption when they welcome Orlando to the Q on Saturday and it is imperative that they get back on track. These guys have not looked like the Cavs from last season.

Nets nip Cavs

The Cavaliers just can’t seem to solve their road woes. They were defeated 113-111 by the New Jersey Nets, dropping their road record to 3-8 on the season. Vince Carter, who finished with 38 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, outstaged LeBron, who led the Cavs with 37 points and 8 assists. The Wine and Gold fell victim to a cold shooting second and third quarter and nearly mounted a comeback but it wasn’t meant to be.

Until this team figures out how to win on the road, it’s going to be a long season.

Pro Bowl team announced: Browns a no show

For the second time in three days, the Cleveland Browns have been shut out. On Sunday, they concluded their first winless season in the division in over 50 years. Tuesday, they were shut out from being considered for the AFC Pro Bowl roster. No Browns were chosen to travel to Hawaii to participate in the postseason game. Since their return in 1999, Cleveland has sent only one player, Jamir Milller, to the Pro Bowl. The 2006 season has undoubtedly been a disaster but there are a few members of the Browns who are having solid individual seasons and possibly deserve consideration. Here’s how their numbers stack up against some of their counterparts on the AFC Pro Bowl roster.

TE: Antonio Gates 65 rec., 805 yds., 8 TD
Tony Gonzalez 66 rec., 812 yds., 5 TD
Kellen Winslow, Jr. 76 rec., 755 yds., 3 TD

MLB: Al Wilson 96 tkls., 1 sack, 1 FF, 4 pass deflections, 5.5 tkls. for loss
Andra Davis 104 tkls., 1 sack, 1 FF, 3 PD, 4 TFL

S: Troy Polamalu 66 tkls., 3 INT, 9 PD
John Lynch 69 tkls, 0 INT, 4 PD
Sean Jones 91 tkls., 5 INT, 16 PD

Perhaps the most deserving of any Brown is safety Sean Jones, who was left off the list in favor of Polamalu, Lynch, and Ed Reed. While it is only his first full season in the NFL, Jones has played like a Pro Bowler all season and I think deserves it over at least Polamalu and Lynch. They are great players and have impressive track records but I think you have to look at Jones as a viable option for a starting safety position in the AFC. I guess that’s what he gets for being on a bad team.
