Youboty will leave OSU for NFL

This sucks. Junior CB Ashton Youboty announced his intention to leave Ohio State and enter the 2006 NFL draft. Junior safety Donte Witner has not made it official yet, but he’s also expected to leave early. Ohio State will be losing nine starters from this season’s dominating defense.

With Vince Young leaving for the NFL, the Buckeyes might have been the pre-season #1 team in the country. That ranking will be harder to justify now that they’re losing two more defensive starters. That said, neither guy was a dominating players, and the Buckeyes are often loaded at this position. We might even see Ted Ginn getting some time at DB.

Both guys are making a mistake. Neither player will be picked in the first round. They might even drop to the thrid round. They could have come back for their senior season on a Buckeye team that has a great chance to play for the national championship. They could have improved their draft status. They should have stayed.

Braylon’s knee

I hadn’t realized he just had the surgery last week

He missed the Browns’ final four games, and had to wait until swelling in his knee subsided before he could have surgery.

The swelling took 5 weeks to go down? Wow. Is that normal for such an injury? I’m not gonna hold my breath for a Week 1 return.

Buckeyes show strength on road

The Buckeyes were dealt their first loss of the year and it was in heartbreaking fashion as they fell 81-79 against Indiana. AGAIN, in what is becoming a common occurence for the buckeyes, OSU was homered against the Hoosiers.

A charge against Dials in the waning seconds of the game gave IU the free throws they needed to take the lead for the eventual win. That simply isn’t a call you see ANYWHERE in the last few seconds of the game, but the officiating seemed inconsistent the entire night.

That being said, this was a very strong game for the Buckeyes. There are always problems with officiating, but the great teams have to rise above all of that. OSU isn’t great yet, but they are good and a very solid Big Ten team. A strong showing on the road against a tough IU team proves that they can hang with anyone, but If I’m ranking the b10 top five right now, it’s looking

1. Michigan State
2. Illinois
3. Indiana
4. Iowa
5. Ohio State

Trade Damon Jones

It’s getting harder to justify keeping Damon Jones on this team, let alone starting, during a period of two months without Larry Hughes. The guy made one shot last night, of the 6 he took, all from three point land, 3 assists, 0 rebounds, 0 free throw attempts. I think I saw him standing inside the three point line once last night, and saw him moving his feet on offense even less. The good news is that Mike Brown looks like he gave some of Jones’ minutes to Mike Wilks, who got 26 minutes last night.

Trade deadline is Feb. 23. Ship ‘im out.
