Bucks look ready for Texas

They kinda let up in garbage time in their 34-14 defeat of Miami (Ohio), but the Buckeyes looked solid. Oklahoma losing today might help in a cosmic, karmic, zen sorta way against Texas, if only for the fact that Texas obsesses over every single thing Oklahoma football does.

Broncos ready to cut losses with Clarett?

When it came time for Maurice Clarett to sign his rookie contract, he chose to forgo $410,000 in guaranteed money in favor of an incentive-laden deal that could?ve been worth as much as $7 million. At the time, the general consensus was that, while passing on the guaranteed cash showed just how confident Clarett was in his ability, it was a move that could come back to bite him in the ass. Now there’s talk that the Broncos are on the verge of cutting the underachieving Clarett, a move they probably wouldn’t consider had they owed the back a signing bonus.

Buckeyes will rely on Ginn

ESPN.com has a cool profile on Ted Ginn, Jr. For all the hype that Reggie Bush is getting heading into the college football season, Pat Ford points out that Ginn might steal Bush’s thunder as the most exciting player this season. Bush is a great player, but I think Ginn will assert himself as the best player in college football and lead the Buckeyes to a great season.

Is Maurice Clarett finally growing up?

Maurice Clarett helped the Buckeyes win a National Championship, and then he turned on the school and his former teammates by trying to destroy the program. Fortunately, the NCAA didn’t believe his bullshit and the Ohio State football program dodged a bullet.

Since then, it has been easy to take shots at Clarett, and we’re more than happy to do so, but we have to give him credit for the new contract he signed with Denver. The details are spelled out in a post on The Scores Report. Basically, Clarett will not take any guaranteed money and instead will receive significant performance bonuses. He’s showing he has some balls, and maybe, just maybe, he’s finally growing up.

Ohio State QB Smith did not break NCAA rules

Ohio State QB Troy Smith has been cleared of NCAA violations by Ohio State and the NCAA following an investigation over his attendence at a football camp conducted by Steve McNair. This seemed like a very minor incident, so it should be a relief for Buckeye fans that Smith will not have to sit out any more games following the opener. Regardless of whether he starts, the Buckeyes will likely need him against Texas.
