Browns continue to make moves

The Cleveland Browns quietly re-signed another local player. The state of Ohio has always been rich in football talent. I’m glad to finally see the Buckeyes and Browns taking advantage of this by keeping guys at home to play football.
The defensive line needs to be deep in talent and special teams is something that Coach Crennel has always felt is important to win games.

Terry Pluto on the Tribe, the Browns and Lebron

Now that Hal Lebowitz is gone, the weekly “View from Pluto” is a must-read for all Cleveland sports fans. Terry Pluto is the best writer covering Cleveland sports, and his insights each week are informative and entertaining. This week’s installment has some great predictions on the Tribe’s 2006 season. He’s not worried about the bullpen because the Tribe has some great depth at the minor league level. The same can be said for the starting pitchers, and we all know that Andy Marte and Ryan Garko will be waiting at Buffalo to take over at third base and first base.

As for the Browns, Pluto points out some interesting comparisons to the Butch Davis era:

There’s a good chance the 2006 Browns will have only two offensive starters from the Butch Davis Era: receiver Dennis Northcutt and right tackle Ryan Tucker. And if Braylon Edwards gets healthy (not expected back until September) or free-agent signee Joe Jurevicius starts, then it will only be Tucker.

• If the Browns have a decent draft, there could be as many as 40 out of 53 players who are new this season compared with the end of 2004. On defense, the only returning Davis Era starters might be Orpheus Roye, Andra Davis and Daylon McCutcheon. Chaun Thompson and Alvin McKinley came off the bench in 2004.

That’s pretty amazing. Savage and Crennel have them going in the right direction.

Finally, Pluto’s story about LeBron is worth reading. This kid is amazing.

Browns on Cruise contol?

There is some speculation around the league that Randy Lerner plans to sell a small portion of the Browns next year. The buyers, a possible Hollywood consortium, will have the option of purchasing the whole team, the following year. This will bring a “movie star” flavor to the Browns, with Tom Cruise being involved in the purchase. I am not surprised by this rumor. I never felt that Lerner wanted to own the franchise that his father both loved and honored. I just hope that the new owners will be as committed to winning as the new GM and coaches in the Browns organization.

Browns finally turning heads

The Cleveland Browns aren’t about to take a back seat to the Indians and Cavaliers when it comes to national attention. This year’s free agency has everyone around the league finally looking at the Browns. The Browns have created an offensive line that will boast both power and speed. They also look strong at the skilled positions.
Cleveland has nine picks in the draft, so the Browns management still has an opportunity to add to the already talented core of players.

The Browns give us reason to smile

The Cleveland Browns are suddenly coming into the 2006 season with high expectations. John Collins resigned, leaving Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel with complete control of the team. This allowed them to become very aggressive in the free agent market.
The Browns President Randy Lerner speaks optimistically about how the Browns future needs to have stability and continuity. As an optimistic Browns fan, I finally have reason to believe that the Cleveland Browns are back and ready to make us proud again.
