Kiper projections

Mel Kiper has some interesting projections on his updated draft board (from ESPN Insider). He projects Ashton Youboty to go to the Dolphins with the 16th pick, two picks higher than Santonio Holmes. I guess that means his decision to leave early wasn’t such a bad choice. Also, and this one makes me sick to think about it, he has Bobby Carpenter going late in the first round the the Steelers. That would be great for Carpenter, but it would suck for Browns fans. He still has the Browns selecting Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway with the #12 pick.

Junior college linebacker picks Ohio State

Junior college linebacker Larry Grant decided to commit to Ohio State. Grant is ready to play right now so this could be a big boost to the Ohio State defense that is losing nine starters, including all three starting linebackers. Grant acknowledged this when he discussed his decision:

He said earlier this week that one of the attractions of Ohio State is the vacancy sign hanging over all three linebacker spots, vacated by All-American A.J. Hawk and his two fellow seniors Bobby Carpenter and Anthony Schlegel.

Let’s see if Tressel can sneak in some more players before tomorrow’s deadline.

More recruiting

The additions of Roy Small and Thaddeus Gibson give Ohio State two more top-100 players as ranked by Scouts.com:

The Buckeyes have landed seven top-100 players, trailing only USC (11) and Florida (eight). And with one week to go until signing day, their recruiting class is rated ninth by Rivals.com, seventh by Scout.com and sixth by ESPN’s Scouts, Inc.

Another solid effort. Let’s see if they can score some last-minute surprises.

Chris Wells ranked #1 prospect by Scout.com

In their final rankings of the top 100 high school football recruits in the country, running back Chris Wells, who has committted to Ohio State, heads up their list as the #1 recruit in the country.

Wells is a big back with speed and he’ll be an important addition to an already explosive offense next season. He’ll probably battle Pittman for the starting spot at running, but we can expect him to at least split time. Adding a power back to the mix will make nest season’s offense even more formidable.
