Lopsided loss hurts

The tables were turned Wednesday night as the Orioles delivered a blowout of their own against the Indians, pounding them 18-9. In the strangest and most bizarre game of the year, the Tribe held a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. But it was then that the Baltimore bats came to life against Jake Westbrook and everything went downhill for the Tribe. The Orioles scored seven in the fifth and five more in the eighth to blow the game open. Jhonny Peralta and Todd Hollandsworth both committed errors in the eighth. To make matters worse, Rafael Betancourt and Matt Miller both had to leave the game in the sixth with injuries. Wedge said one of them would most likely have to go on the disabled list. Victor Martinez, Jhonny Peralta, and Aaron Boone all homered for the Tribe.

“It was a bad night, all the way around. It’s one game,” said manager Eric Wedge.

One minute it looks like we are going to cruise to another victory and in the span of an inning, we lose the lead and two of our pitchers are hurt. Luckily we have talented arms in Triple-A that can temporarily help fill the void in the bullpen.

Offense goes berserk in Baltimore

The Indians have now scored 25 runs in the last two games. The Tribe lit up the Orioles Tuesday night 15-1 behind 20 hits. Victor Martinez and Grady Sizemore each went 3 for 6 with a home run and three RBI apiece. Martinez extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Jason Johnson continued his dominant pitching, allowing only one run in seven innings. His ERA for the season is now at 1.83 through three starts. The news wasn’t all good for the Tribe. Aaron Boone injured his left wrist after being hit by a pitch in the eighth, but X-rays were negative. With the win, the Indians equalled their win total from all of last April.

I’m not sure if Jason Johnson knows he’s the fifth starter, because he sure is pitching like an ace. Every time he has taken the mound he has given the Tribe an outstanding performance. Keep it up Jay.

Cavs end season strong, raise playoff expectations

The Cavaliers are entering the playoffs with high expectations. They are fifth in the final power rankings, only trailing the Detroit Pistons from the east. LeBron James is making a strong run for MVP and Larry Hughes is quickly returning to his pre-injury form.
Cleveland is expected to make it through the first round and give the Pistons a run in round two.
If the Cavs fall short, they will have to feel like the season was a failure.
Cleveland is young when it comes to playoff experience and will find out how much pressure there is when you compete in the extra season. This is where LeBron James needs to step up and show the world why he is the next great NBA star. The Cavs opponent should be meaningless considering they have home court advantage. The first game will determine which team advances, so Cleveland better come out strong.

Fifth seed up for grabs

Just a week or so ago it was assumed that the Cavs would match up with the Wizards in the first round of the playoffs. However, things have gotten extremely tight recently and what happens in the next few days will determine who the fifth seed will be. Washington, Milwaukee, and Chicago all have the chance to play the Cavs in the first round. Here’s a look at all the scenarios and possibilities.

I personally would much rather face the Bucks than any other team. We all know the Wizards have given us trouble and have proven they can beat us, winning the season series 3-1. Even though we swept the Bulls this season, they are hot right now and have the playoff experience from last year.

LeBron-less Cavs defeat Celtics

The Cavaliers got their third straight win as they beat the Boston Celtics 93-88 Monday night. In a game where both teams played their reserves for most of the game, Larry Hughes led the Cavs with 21 points and 5 steals. LeBron James and Paul Pierce both sat out of the game due to their respective injuries. LeBron sitting was just precautionary and he will be ready to go by playoff time.

It seems Hughes is starting to catch his stride and it can’t come at a better time with the playoffs less than a week away. Hughes at full strength can only mean good things for the Cavs.
