Bucks voted number one by all

The Ohio State Buckeyes didn’t play their best football game this weekend, but after a couple upsets, the Buckeyes find themselves with all 65 first place media votes. A team hasn’t had a unanimous media selection since 2003 when Oklahoma earned every vote. Troy Smith and the Buckeye offense was shut out in the second half of the Illinois game, but still managed to hang on for a 17-10 victory.

The University of Michigan hung on for a narrow 34-26 victory over Ball State and remains strong at number two in all the polls.

I watched the Big East match up between West Virginia and Louisville and was very disappointed in the defenses on both sides of the ball. I know the Big East conference may have an undefeated team at the end of the year, but not one that should be playing in the title game.

Buckeyes hold on

The 17-10 victory over Illinois was a little too close for comfort, but hopefully it will force the Buckeyes to improve their focus heading into the Michigan game in two weeks. The offense sputtered in the rain in the second half, but the defense was outstanding.

Troy Smith did not do a great job handling the pressure. He and the Buckeyes will need to play better to defeat Michigan.

The Bucks get defensive

The Ohio State Buckeye defense has been playing better than most people expected this year. The Buckeyes have one of the best offenses in the country, and were suppose to rely on Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. to carry the team through this season. After 9 games, the statistics rank this defense with some of the best ever to play at the horseshoe.

Ohio State offensive guard T. J. Downing was quoted as saying this defense deserves comparison to last year’s defense, which saw 6 players drafted into the NFL. I believe this defense is young and talented, but last years defense had more stars. The NFL should be watching this group closely, as you will see many of these Buckeyes playing on Sundays in a couple years.

Smith still leads the pack

The Ohio State Buckeyes and Troy Smith continue to keep winning. The fact that Smith isn’t throwing for 300 yards or rushing for 100 yards each game is no reason to believe he’s losing the lead in the Heisman trophy race.

The Heisman trophy goes to a champion and/or someone that continues to make their team and players perform better. Troy Smith is the key to the Buckeyes success this year. He doesn’t believe in “padding his stats” or doing something that hinders the success of the team for his own numbers.

Smith is a lock to win the Heisman this year; the only thing left to decide is what two players will be sitting next to him.

Tressel a Buckeye for life, I think

Jim Tressel, the Ohio State Buckeyes head football coach, addressed the media on rumors that he would consider leaving the Buckeyes to be head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Tressel grew up in Ohio and has been a lifetime fan of the Browns and Buckeyes.

Tressel stated that he loves the college environment and has always considered himself a teacher and a coach. Although, many feel that he left the door open a crack by not completely ruling out the idea.
