Listening to baseball on the radio on a summer day is one of the fading pleasures of American life. And when the Tribe wins, it’s even better.

C.C. Sabathia was dominant last night. A month ago, I would have questioned putting him into a playoff rotation. Now, he’s back to being an ace. The PD does a good job of laying out just how good Tribe pitching is right now. Great timing.
Who would be in your playoff rotation?
Three games against Oakland, three against Minnesota. In that period, the Yankees play a 3-game home series against Boston. Big week ahead. Could make or break the playoff chase.
Or not.
I admit…I’m a Browns fan first. And I’m one of those underappreciative Indians fans who people wonder why aren’t we getting excited about the Tribe’s playoff chase. So I decided I’d write a Tribe piece or two today, and wandered across the PD’s TribeTracker blog, by a guy named Joey Morona. Guess what.
It hasn’t been updated since last Friday. Call me crazy, Joey, but if you’re tracking the Tribe with a blog, during a playoff chase, you don’t disappear for FIVE DAYS, even if it is a holiday weekend, and especially if you are, as Joey is, senior sports producer at Cleveland.com since 1998. Maybe those PD bloggers have a union contract. They don’t really blog all that much.
All you Bob Wickman haters, give it a rest. Aside from his numbers, which are great, you gotta admit, the man keeps you watching the game. It’s a roller coaster ride every time he pitches. As much as I loved Jose Mesa in his prime, you could literally leave the game when he took the mound. A win was a forgone conclusion. Sure, it was great to have that certainty, but not as much fun as Wickie. With Wickman, you’re glued to the game until the last pitch.
It’s a bit like getting rid of umpires in favor of some machine. Stupid. The inherent variability of the strike zone when applied by human beings is part of the game, makes it fun, and what else would you argue about during the game?
