NCAA cites only one violation for Buckeye football program

Buckeye football fans should be breathing a sigh of relief, as the NCAA has cited only one violation arising from Maurice Clarett’s allegations against the football program. It appears that only the Troy Smith matter was cited, meaning that no additional sanctions are expected against the football program.

Unfortunately, the basketball program will probably be forced to forfeit games arising from their problems. OSU will have to face more PR embarassments as that process plays out, but it looks like Tressell and the football program will be safe, and the basketball program can get a fresh start.

Three in a row!

It’s hard to belive, but the Tribe has won three in a row for the first time this season. They’ve had the fewest home games in the majors, so it would be a great time to heat up at home. The youngsters like Peralta and Sizemore are leading the way along with the bullpen, so there is still significant room for improvement if guys like Victor Martinez finally start hitting.

Tribe falls 10.5 games back of White Sox

The Tribe offense is starting to show a little bit of life and they’ve won three of the last five games, but the bats are still very inconsistent. Meanwhile, the White Sox have extended their lead to 10.5 games. The White Sox offense has not been much better, but their pitching staff has been on fire.

It’s still way too early to panic, since the White Sox likely won’t keep this pace up all season, but we’re getting closer to Shapiro’s mid-May timetable for assessing the progress of the team. Boone and Elarton top the list of players who are on the hot seat. Shapiro has plenty of options with young players in the minors, so we might see changes soon.

CC + KC = Victory!

Just when it was starting to look really ugly for the Tribe, the pathetic Royals limped into town. C.C. Sabathia celebrated his new contract by combining on a 3-hit shutout, and the offense woke up for six runs. Boone went hitless again, so Wedge will have to address that situation soon. C.C. on the other hand looks awesome. Hopefully the Tribe can sweep the Royals and get the season back on track.
