Cavs keep news positive

The Cleveland Cavaliers are winning games and Larry Hughes has returned to the team with a clean bill of health. This gives all of us Cleveland fans reason to smile. In recent years, Cleveland fans would expect to hear some bad news and feel something negative was going to happen.

Not this time. Damon Jones, as he predicted, was cleared of any crimes or wrong doings and according to police reports fully cooperated during the investigation. It’s good for the team to move past this situation and concentrate on the playoffs.
Also, the news on Zydrunas Ilgaukas is positive. The MRI and X-rays both came back negative and the Cavaliers are going to rest him for tonight’s game in New York. I don’t believe Z would be playing full time whether he got hurt or not. The more rest Z and LeBron James can have before the playoffs, the better.

Browns continue to make moves

The Cleveland Browns quietly re-signed another local player. The state of Ohio has always been rich in football talent. I’m glad to finally see the Buckeyes and Browns taking advantage of this by keeping guys at home to play football.
The defensive line needs to be deep in talent and special teams is something that Coach Crennel has always felt is important to win games.

Cavs get good news and Indians get bad

The Cleveland Cavaliers will likely have Larry Hughes back in the next couple days. This will be a nice transition to get him ready for the playoffs. Hughes will have some time to again understand the offense and put in valuable minutes on the defensive end. This should be a great “shot in the arm” for Cleveland heading into the playoffs with home court for at least the first round. I look for LeBron James to get some well needed rest in the next couple weeks.

The Cleveland Indians started the season in Chicago and after losing another opener, they had to face more bad news. It’s likely that C.C. Sabathia will miss at least 2 starts as he recovers from his injury. This is not the type of start the Indians wanted considering they played catch up all last season and fell just short of the playoffs.

Tressel has early challenge

The Ohio State football team had nothing but positive press when discussing their offensive talent and the ability for this team to have a successful season next year. Coach Jim Tressel faced his first off the field challenge, reminding him that youth on a football team doesn’t come without headaches.

This will be the first test for Coach Tressel to implement his belief that talent and a clean program are very important to him as the Buckeye leader. This incident will give Coach the opportunity to show the young players that he will support them through rough times as long as they learn their lesson the first time around.

The Indians will win as a team

The season starts tonight and the Cleveland Indians are looking like a team that is ready to win. The recent contract signings has done nothing to change the structure of this team. They are playing together and keep their egos in control. Mark Shapiro has done a wonderful job of creating a team that is easy to cheer for and hustles to win. This team has quiet leaders and the “pure” talent to win.

There are numerous fans that are comparing this team to the Albert Bell and Kenny Lofton days. I believe the talent is there, but the clubhouse unity is stronger. They need to start fast and the youth should help them through this long season.
