Matta, Buckeyes signing extension

The Ohio State University has two of the best coaches in the country with Jim Tressel heading up the football team and Thad Matta engineering the basketball squad.

Gene Smith and the board of directors are acting fast in locking up both to long term contracts. Matta, currently has an eight year deal worth 11 million dollars, is going to sign an extension in the next couple days.

Buckeye hoops have high expectations

The Ohio State Buckeye hoop team and Coach Thad Matta understand that Columbus will be following their football team for the next month. The early rankings have them at number 13 in the country and “limitless” potential when Greg Oden returns from his wrist injury.

This year the Buckeye faithful will barely be catching their breath from a successful football season, when the hoop team takes the court. Here are some early quotes to get you ready for the exciting season ahead.

Browns need to earn respect

The Cleveland Browns are slowly becoming a proud team. The week prior to the Carolina Panthers game, Braylon Edwards talked of his days at U of M and how he continually beat Ohio State’s Chris Gamble. Kellen Winslow confidently stated that if the Browns play to their potential, the offense would be unstoppable. Reuben Droughns is now answering a “calling out” by part time player Quincy Morgan.

IT’S ABOUT TIME. The Browns Backers have more history than most organizations. When Phil Savage was hired, one goal was to return Browns pride back to this city. I was amazed to read how overrated Gerard “always too fat” Warren was ragging on the Browns organization. And Quincy “I had one big catch in my career” Morgan was questioning this team’s heart. This is the type of crap that Cleveland needs to change. They need to answer the bell and ring Morgan’s.

Cleveland fans are proud and loud and it would do my heart good to send Denver packing with a nice “butt whipping” in our house. I fully expect Andra Davis to put Morgan on his back, if he plays more than special teams.

Cavs want it all

The Cleveland Cavaliers are entering this season with high expectations. Last season, the Cavs accomplished most of their preseason goals. This year, people around the organization are starting to mention NBA finals when talking about this team.

The rookies are playing above the level expected this early in the the year and LeBron James has been playing competitively overseas in the off season. Terry Pluto writes an interesting article on how just making the playoffs will not be a success this season.

Canes act like “thugs” again

The Miami Hurricanes displayed to the whole country that they are a university with no class and behave like thugs rather than football players. The coach and university acted swiftly by suspending players and apologizing to the country. I believe the NCAA needs to step in and lay down fines and suspensions to the program.

This is not the first time the Hurricanes have been involved in embarrassing activity on or off the field. The ugly incident is always followed with a statement from the university and coach…”This will never happen again”. I believe the players are “out of control” and Coach Larry Coker’s methods aren’t working.

College football is gaining the NFL in popularity; I hope they have the intelligence to remove the idiots before they ruin it for everyone.
