Mike Brown sounds upbeat on Lebron

Posted on Thursday 13 October 2005

Listening to Cavs coach Mike Brown on WTAM tonight, he sounds pretty loose about Lebron’s condition, but at the same time, says Lebron is staying in the Clinic overnight on Thursday night. Says the diagnosis is a strained pectoralis.

I feel a bit better, but not that much. Why is he still staying overnight if it’s just a strained pec? Sounds like A LOT of caution.

Lebron’s “heart not an issue”

Posted on Thursday 13 October 2005

This is not good. Don’t tell me to calm down.

General manager Danny Ferry said tests on James have not shown anything abnormal, and his understanding is that James’ heart “is not an issue.”

I’m gonna start crying shortly.

Lebron in hospital - half of Cleveland soon to follow

Posted on Thursday 13 October 2005

Why does God hate Cleveland? Why?

James was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday night as he continued to experience discomfort for what has been diagnosed by team doctors as a strained left pectoral muscle. The team didn’t reveal James’ hospital stay until Thursday when the 20-year-old did not practice with the Cavaliers. Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said all the preliminary testing done on James has been normal. Ferry hopes James can be released on Thursday.

Kenny Roda just read a statement from the Cavs saying that Lebron will stay in the hospital for more tests. Don’t know about you, but I’m preparing for the worst. Maybe he’s got some kinda staph infection like everybody else in the entire Cleveland sports universe.

Two Dilfer articles - one great Romeo quote

Posted on Thursday 13 October 2005

Today, both the PD and the Baltimore Sun do stories on Trent Dilfer’s return to Baltimore on Sunday. They’re both saying that Dilfer is handling it well, toning himself down from Monday to today. The Sun has my favorite quote, from Romeo Crennel.

“I think that the human nature side of him says that he will be emotional,” Crennel said, “but because of his experience, he will be able to control that. Then, if he is not able to control it, I will try to control it for him.”

The PD’s Dilfer story doesn’t go with this quote…why the hell not? It’s fantastic. For such a straight shooter, old-school guy, Crennel is proving very quotable.

Jamal’s career days

Posted on Thursday 13 October 2005

In a long line of running backs who have torched the Browns in recent years, Ravens RB Jamal Lewis stands alone. His career average vs. the Browns is 147.6 yards per game, including the outrageous 295 yard game in 2003. He’s not talking much this week about that, even though the Baltimore media is baiting him.

“You can’t really say, ‘Oh, it’s the Browns, and I’m going to go out and get 200 yards,’” Lewis said. “You never know. That’s why I went in last year like, ‘These guys know what we’re going to do. We got all these yards against them before. They’re not going to let that happen again.’”

…But why not predict another career day, especially when it worked so well two years ago and being humble last year did not?

“The only thing that made me say that back then was that I have a friend [Andre Davis] over there, and we were just talking on the phone,” Lewis said. “I said that to him. At the same time, it wasn’t supposed to go that far. He was supposed to let that phone conversation go as far as that phone. It went and backfired.”

I don’t even remember the guy’s name who torched the Browns running defense last week. Was it Thomas Jones? Jones Thomas? What was his name? Anyway, running defense has been, and still is, the Browns biggest weakness.

More mystery injuries - Braylon

Posted on Thursday 13 October 2005

What’s with all the mystery injuries lately? I’m guessing Braylon Edwards is gone for the season.

“They did give us a window of probability that he’ll be back in four to six weeks,” said his father, Stan Edwards. “But don’t hold him to that. He’s doing much better, though. This could have been much worse.”

This team is going to be so different next year. You’re gonna have Edwards and Kellen Winslow showing up at camp together, and a no-longer-rookie Charlie Frye. Don’t get used to this 2005 Browns team, folks. It seems that 2006 has been pre-ordained as the year they emerge as an actual team.

That is, unless there’s more mystery injuries.
