Edwards catches grief, instead of footballs

Cleveland Browns starting receiver Braylon Edwards attempted to “back off” on his statement about teammate Brian Russell’s hit on Chad Johnson when addressing the media. He said Russell was a teammate and they have to go to battle together. In my opinion, Edwards needs to shut his mouth and produce on the field.

Braylon stated that receivers are “hung out there” a lot in this league. This may be a sign of HIS toughness or lack of. The skilled positions in the NFL are paid very well to perform on the field and take hard shots during a game. If Edwards isn’t prepared to do this, he should practice punting during the off-season.

The Browns and Coach Romeo Crennell have a ton of work to do before they’re successful in this league. The last thing Romeo needs to worry about is the mouth of an unproven superstar.

Bucks hoop team winning too

The Ohio State Buckeyes basketball team continues to make headlines with their fast start. Last night, they crushed Youngstown State 91-57 to raise their record to 6-0. The Buckeyes continue to win big, even with superstar Greg Oden on the bench with his wrist injury.

The freshman duo of Mike Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook continue to lead the team, waiting for the dominant Oden to return. Ohio State’s first true test will come on the road this Wednesday at 2nd ranked North Carolina in the ACC/BIG TEN Challenge. The Tar Heels and Buckeyes battled for the best recruiting classes in the nation last year.

Cavs start fast, end slow and lose

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to struggle with trying to get road wins. Last night, LeBron James and the Cavs held a double digit lead through most of the first half. The halftime score was a comfortable 56-44 lead. The third quarter was a complete disaster as Indiana outscored Cleveland 25-9.

LeBron James lead the Cavs with 30 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Drew Gooden chipped in 17 points and 12 boards. Gooden and James combined for over 50% of the offense. This team will not be successful with this type of distribution. The bench and roll players will need to contribute if this team wants to compete with the powers of the East. Coach Mike Brown needs to find a rotation that works, especially on the road.

Cavs getting respect, need to keep playing hard

The NBA season is in full swing and so far the Cleveland Cavaliers look like the only team from the Eastern Conference with momentum. The West is leading the way with the Jazz, Spurs and Dallas. Cleveland is off to a decent start, while the rest of the East teams are struggling to find an identity.

The Cavaliers have an opportunity to get a good jump on some talented teams that are off to a slow start. They’re playing well and getting the respect around the league. This is the first time in LeBron’s career that Cleveland had the lead early. In my opinion, the Cavs need to win their division to be a successful season. They need to be aggressive and go after the wins against the “soft” teams. James needs to keep his competitive nature and even turn it up a notch.

Buckeyes and Tressel rest, prepare and develop

The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to finish their season by Thanksgiving Day. During the Jim Tressel era, the Bucks are making a habit of playing in BCS bowls games. This gives Ohio State almost two full months of practice in between games. The media and fans continue to think of this as a negative. Tressel, being the successful head coach that he is, uses this time to develop his young players.

Coach Tressel and his staff feel that this time last year allowed them to develop the young secondary that is playing on this undefeated squad. The Buckeye starters are still recovering from the hard fought victory over the “the team up north”, while the young players will continue to develop.

The other positive is that if you give Coach Tressel 50 days to prepare for any game, it usually spells trouble for the opponent.
