Cavs get huge win on the road

The Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James showed the NBA that they will be a top team this season. The Cavs won in San Antonio for the first time since 1988. James led the Cavs with 35 points and 10 rebounds as he dominated the floor from beginning to end.

Tim Duncan and the Spurs made a late run, but Cleveland held them off for an 88-81 victory. The Cavaliers defense looked better than against Washington, as they were able to make some critical stops at the end to preserve the victory. James played like a future MVP making big shots and pulling down critical rebounds. If LeBron and the Cavs continue to play this type of defense, Cleveland will be making a run at a championship.

Buckeyes and Matta make long term agreement

The Ohio State Buckeyes and head basketball coach Thad Matta have officially agreed to a long term contract. Matta and the Buckeyes are expected to be very successful this year. This freshman class is one of the best in the country.

Coach Matta has a passion to win and continues to convince top recruits that the Ohio State basketball program is on the rise. The incoming class for next year is ranked in the top 5, with a couple top players still not committed. This extension is something AD Gene Smith felt was critical for the stability and growth of this program.

Winslow believes in Browns, himself

Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow has told the world that he wants to be the best in the NFL at his position. He even went as far as saying he is “the best” tight end in football this year. The media has turned these comments into a three ring circus.

I believe Winslow is a confident not cocky player. He hasn’t questioned the opponent’s talent; he is just talking proudly about himself. The Browns are losing on a regular basis; this type of passion may put a much needed charge into this offense.

The Bucks get defensive

The Ohio State Buckeye defense has been playing better than most people expected this year. The Buckeyes have one of the best offenses in the country, and were suppose to rely on Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. to carry the team through this season. After 9 games, the statistics rank this defense with some of the best ever to play at the horseshoe.

Ohio State offensive guard T. J. Downing was quoted as saying this defense deserves comparison to last year’s defense, which saw 6 players drafted into the NFL. I believe this defense is young and talented, but last years defense had more stars. The NFL should be watching this group closely, as you will see many of these Buckeyes playing on Sundays in a couple years.

Cavs win opener

The Cleveland Cavaliers started the season with a hard fought 97-94 victory over last year’s playoff opponent, the Washington Wizards. The Cavs led early, but had numerous turnovers and converted only 50% of their free throws. This allowed the Wizards to stay close and almost pull off a victory at the end.

The Cavs were led by Larry Hughes with 27 and LeBron James with 26 as the duo showed a glimpse of what we can expect this season. Cleveland and their fans have put high expectations on this team; the Cavs need to concentrate on one game at a time.
