Jones acts like a professional

Posted on Wednesday 22 November 2006

Damon Jones, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, has improved this year both on and off the court. On the court, Jones is starting to hit the 3-pointers and direct the team during critical parts of the game. He’s becoming a leader, besides LeBron James, the Cavs can depend on in clutch situations.

Jones, who recently received two technical fouls in a game, called a press conference before the Washington Wizard contest. He publicly apologized for the unprofessional manner in which he acted in the previous contest.

This action shows me that Jones, who sometimes can come across as arrogant on the court, is a class act and respects the game of basketball. The amount of money being paid to professionals these days, it’s good to see someone step up and show some humility.

North of the border unkind to Cleveland

LeBron James fell two assists shy of a triple-double but still couldn’t lead the Cavs past the Toronto Raptors as they lost 95-87. The Raptors improve to just 3-8 on the season and the Cavs fall to 0-3 on the second night of back to backs. They looked sluggish early and the Raptors shot the lights out in the first quarter. The Cavs battled back and led going into the fourth quarter before falling apart in the final period. Chris Bosh was a menace for the Raptors scoring 25 points and adding 14 rebounds.

For the second night in a row the team has not looked very sharp. Lately they have had trouble putting together a full 48 minutes and have often looked out of sync at times.

Cavs need to win like champions

Posted on Wednesday 22 November 2006

The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday night 97-94 after leading most the of the game by at least 20. As I watched the game, it became very evident the Cavaliers don’t have that “put them away” instinct.

Cleveland will never be a championship team if they can’t put a team away when they’re down. If the Cavaliers would have blown this game, a black cloud would be above them early in the season. Terry Pluto writes and interesting article on the Cavs inability to finish a game.

My opinion is that LeBron James, not just Mike Brown, must lead this charge. The NBA is a game of momentum and James needs to learn to take advantage of it. If Michael Jordon was leading by 20 at home, you could go grab a beer and listen to the “fat lady sing”. The Cavaliers and James are slowing changing the face of Cleveland basketball, now they need to show everyone they have what it takes to be a champion.
