Browns stay busy by signing Washington and Zastudil

Posted on Monday 13 March 2006

Phil Savage is on a roll. In the second day of free agency, the Browns added punter Dave Zastudil of Bay Village and four-time Pro Bowl nose tackle Ted Washington of the Raiders.

Washington is a huge nose tackle (6-5, 365) that can stuff the middle and helps address one of the team’s biggest needs. He’s 38 years old, however, so he isn’t a long-term solution. That said, he can really help this defense get more physical and give the Browns time to develop some young nose tackles.

Savage is also working to get former Detroit defensive end Kalimba Edwards signed by today. Edwards (6-6, 265), can play linebacker in the 3-4 and might be the pass-rush specialist the Browns sorely need.

Buckeyes fall to Iowa in Big Ten final, land as #2 seed in NCAA tournament

Posted on Monday 13 March 2006

The Buckeyes led for most of the game, but they couldn’t hold off a late surge by Iowa as they lost their chance to add a Big Ten Tournament title to their regular season title.

Ohio State also lots a chance to get a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, though a #2 seed is still well beyond the wildest dreams Buckeye fans had at the beginning of this season.

With their reliance on the three-pointer, the Buckeyes need to get hot to do some damage in this tournament. Their vulnerable to being upset, but they’re also very dangerous. Hopefully it will be a fun ride for Buckeye fans.
