A burden weighs heavy

Posted on Friday 9 September 2005

OSU v. Texas hype is a global phenomenon. My Texas alum friends in the UK will be watching the OSU game on tape delay Sunday in London. As a one-time member of the non-Texan hangers-on crowd (Americans abroad stick together no matter what state they’re from), I entered their secret society on one condition. In order to maintain the illusion of live football, all must take the vow of silence, which imposes draconian restrictions on communications with anyone who may know the final score. All gloating is on hold until about 1pm Eastern Time Sunday, when UK Texas Exes will learn the final result of their humbling at the hands of the Buckeyes.

Browns have the ugliest uniforms?

Posted on Friday 9 September 2005

Survey says. I’m sorry, but old school is where it’s at. And there’s nothing more old school than the Browns’ uniforms, which haven’t changed much since Paul Brown. Cowboys got the top spot. And the Steelers (cue the screaming and hollering) got third place.

Gilbert Quickens his commitment to Cleveland

Posted on Friday 9 September 2005

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert lays down about 350 roots in Cleveland. Here’s hoping that he’s able to keep another certain employee of his, whose number is 23, in town long term, too.
