For most of the first half of today’s victory over San Diego State, it appeared that Ohio State was still in depression over the Texas loss. They came out of it in time to win, but the final score, 27-6, is misleading.
I think Troy Smith is over-rated. The best the Buckeyes have looked this year was against Miami (Ohio), with Justin Zwick at QB. They clinically dismantled that team. In the Texas game, the QB shuffling left neither one in charge or in rhythm, and it showed. With Smith at the helm today, the offense looked like it was constantly running at half speed.
There was an all too familiar feel to this game - the playing down to the competition, needlessly allowing an inferior team to linger, and gratitude that we have a good kicker. Maybe this is good news, as the last time that happened, we won a national championship.

Good point about playing down to the compettition. We did do that all the time in 02-03.
I’m sorry, but the Zwick haters look foolish now. Troy Smith is a) rusty (as evidenced by missing wide-ass open receivers) and b) trying to do way too much. He very well could have been picked 3 or 4 times yesterday.
Is Justin the 2nd coming? No. But right now, unlike the end of last year, Smith has reverted to being a great athlete who happens to be under center. Last yr., he had become a great quarterback who was also a great athlete.
When Zwick got the starting job in game 1 he did nothing to really lose the job. Was it his fault Hamby dropped the TD pass against Texas?
Great point o the Hamby play. If he catches that Zwick is the hero. Though we have to remember that Zwick is a fumbling machine and the last one killed us at Texas.
I totally agree that Smith was not impressive. He does not see open receivers downfield. Too often he chooses to throw the dumpoff pass, and too often he misses the open guy. He’s a great runner, but is he the guy to take advantage of our great receivers?
Maybe we have two average quaterbacks, and maybe Todd Boeckman needs to get some PT. Rememmer his 45 yard bomb to Ginn against Miami?
