Great Tribe win tonight over the A’s, 5-3. A crucial victory in a crucial series.
But that’s not the best part. The best part came on a double play in the 9th, with Bob Wickman covering first, during which he fell over at first base, literally just fell over as he was running to the base, rolled around on the ground like Tommy Lasorda at the All-Star Game, rolls into the base runner, thereby keeping him from touching first base, and knocking him over. The ball goes flying. Wickman gets up, runs to the ball. The hitter is writhing in pain down the baseline after getting rolled by Bob Wickman, and Wickman waddles himself to first base to collect the second out of the double play. Greatness.
Wickman haters, you gotta admit. That was one of the funniest things all year.

Man, what a friggin’ game! Down 2-0 in the seventh and in danger of being shut out by the A’s for the second-straight night, Ben Broussard, who entered the game in a 1-for-21 slump, followed up a Ronnie Belliard infield single with a game-tying homer to dead center. An inning later, Broussard hit a three-run bomb to right to give the Tribe a much-needed win.
These are the kinds of games true contenders win. They overcame three errors (two by Broussard), turned several clutch double plays (including one of the prettiest plays you’ll ever see by Ronnie Belliard) and came up with a couple big hits late. This was a big one for the Indians. A win Wednesday night gives them the series victory with what should be an easy series with the Royals coming this weekend at the Jake.
And yes, that play at first was hilarious, though if you watch the replays it sure looks like Dan Johnson touched first before toppling over the beached Wickman.
As long as these starters keep on rolling, there is nothing that can keep us out of the playoffs. Roll baby roll…..
I was at the game and I laughed my ass off. Let’s face it, Wickman has been a stud, He has 40 saves. If we make the playoffs he’ll be the guy, which means anyone with a heart condiditon should not be watching the games.
I think it’s disgraceful to say anyone is “rolling or waddling” to anywhere. Clean off the teenage color and your observations might be a little more worth listening to.
