For the second time in three days, the Cleveland Browns have been shut out. On Sunday, they concluded their first winless season in the division in over 50 years. Tuesday, they were shut out from being considered for the AFC Pro Bowl roster. No Browns were chosen to travel to Hawaii to participate in the postseason game. Since their return in 1999, Cleveland has sent only one player, Jamir Milller, to the Pro Bowl. The 2006 season has undoubtedly been a disaster but there are a few members of the Browns who are having solid individual seasons and possibly deserve consideration. Here’s how their numbers stack up against some of their counterparts on the AFC Pro Bowl roster.
TE: Antonio Gates 65 rec., 805 yds., 8 TD
Tony Gonzalez 66 rec., 812 yds., 5 TD
Kellen Winslow, Jr. 76 rec., 755 yds., 3 TD
MLB: Al Wilson 96 tkls., 1 sack, 1 FF, 4 pass deflections, 5.5 tkls. for loss
Andra Davis 104 tkls., 1 sack, 1 FF, 3 PD, 4 TFL
S: Troy Polamalu 66 tkls., 3 INT, 9 PD
John Lynch 69 tkls, 0 INT, 4 PD
Sean Jones 91 tkls., 5 INT, 16 PD
Perhaps the most deserving of any Brown is safety Sean Jones, who was left off the list in favor of Polamalu, Lynch, and Ed Reed. While it is only his first full season in the NFL, Jones has played like a Pro Bowler all season and I think deserves it over at least Polamalu and Lynch. They are great players and have impressive track records but I think you have to look at Jones as a viable option for a starting safety position in the AFC. I guess that’s what he gets for being on a bad team.

I’m absolutley convinced that their is a conspiracy against Ohio teams. Ohio State, the Cavs, and now this. 3 Browns, who have put up great stats, are left off the Pro Bowl roster. Andra Davis should have been a pro bowler, after last year’s stats, in racking up almost 200 tkls. But no, all you hear about is Ray Lewis, Takeo Spikes, Zach Thomas, Steriod Marriman.
Kellen Winslow is the Browns offense. Remember at the beginning of the year when he said that at 90%, he was better than all the other TE’s in the NFL. I think he proved his point. He put his money where his mouth is, and the NFL saw that. There is no excuse why he wasn’t voted in. At least the coaches saw the kind of year he had. I guess they’re paying us back for Tressel not voting in the coaches poll.
Since Lebron got in the league, they’ve been trying to run him out of Cleveland. They’ve been tryin to get him to New York, Chicago, hell I’ve even heard about him playing with Kobe in LA. It’s like everyone want’s to screw Cleveland.
Ohio State. What more do they have to prove? They ran the tables, defeated some great teams, finished undefeated and produced a Heisman QB, yet “Bitchigan” got more run for not getting a rematch. It’s like everyone in the nation overlooked the fact that they were the best team in the country, from start to finish. Troy Smith, the 2006 Heisman trophy winner, isn’t even the best QB in the nation. What???? How retarded is that?
There is a conspiracy against the Buckeye state. In the words of the great Quincy “Dropsey” Morgan, believe that!!!!
Are you suprised we don’t have any Pro Bowlers yet again? We are the laughing stock of the league!! I think that is a major factor in voting!! Is there one guy on this team that strikes fear into the hearts of opposing coaches, I don’t think so!! Noone in this league has any respect for this team and why should they??!! Not many guys are gonna vote for us if they don’t respect us!!!
How about Dave Zastudil? He had an awesome year. It’s pretty pathetic when when your punter is your best bet to go o the Pro Bowl!
I’m thinking Winslow was deserving but his big mouth probably swayed a few votes away fro him. Hey K2 - play the game on the field and keep your mouth shut!
I agree with Rich wholeheartedly. We are a joke and thus undeserving recognition throughout the league. The only shot we had of a pro bowler went down on the first play of training camp. Winslow’s mouth and the cheap shot he took in the Pittsburgh game took away any chance he may have had. Sean Jones had a great year, but look at his competition: Ed Reed and the long haired freak from Pittsburgh.
Wow, I didn’t realize how good a year Sean Jones was having compared with other top caliber safeties. To me, that’s the most glaring omission. Andra Davis had a great year, but linebacker is sort of a glam position where the big names are going to get nominated every year no matter what. K2’s a tough call. He’s had a good year too, but hasn’t scored as many touchdowns as a dominant receiver should. Of course, that begs the question is that k2, or the offensive play calling? My guess is the later.
Sean Jones had the best arguement…..
Benefit of the Doubt,
shouldn’t a Browns player get the benefit of the doubt if it comes down to even stats since they have only had one pro bowler since they have been back. We actually have a few players who deserve a chance with their stats, but since we’ve been so bad for so long, we get pushed to the bottom. I look at it this way, if there was any reason to watch before, which there wasn’t, there isn’t any now. I haven’t watched the pro bowl in over 10 years and till continue that trend until the selection committee gets a clue..
