Terry Pluto makes a persuasive argument that Derek Anderson should start the next game against the Ravens. He clearly has an NFL-caliber arm, and he also has a quick release. If he keeps playing, our terrible receivers might even learn how to catch his crisp passes. His decision-making has also been solid, and he does not get rattled. He seems to get rid of the ball - something that Charlie has trouble doing.
They might have something with this guy, but we will only find out if he gets the chance to play.
While they’re at it, they should bench Dennis Northcutt and activate third-round pick Travis Wilson. Let’s see if he can catch the ball.

I agree on both ideas. Even if Frye is healthy enough to go, I don’t think the Browns should risk sending him out there and risking further injury in a season that means nothing. Better yet, just shut him down for the rest of the year and see what we have in D.A.
Travis Wilson must be in Romeo’s doghouse or something because I haven’t heard a single thing about him all season. He showed in preseason that he has some ability so put him in and get him some experience. He can’t be any worse than Northcutt. Thank God he won’t be back next season.
you’re fooling yourself if you think it matters at all who the QB is. in fact the QB is the very, very least of our problems on offense.
here is a comprehensive list of problems that need to be dealt with regardless of frye or anderson playing (by comprehensive i mean every position but QB):
1 THE ENTIRE OFFENSIVE LINE WHO CANNOT BLACK ANYONE
2 THE WR’s WHO CAN’T CATCH
3 OUR INCREDIBLY SLOW RUNNING BACKS
once all those 3 problems have been addressed and fixed we can worry about who the QB is.
i mean really, who cares who the QB is. you could put peyton manning back there and it would make no difference.
I agree they have many problems, but you have to address all of them. Evaluating Anderson makes sense.
We really need to go all Offense in draft & free agency!! Say goodbye Dennis, dont let the door hit u on the ass on the way out!!
I was saying from after pre-season that Northcutt should be released. He was one of the terrible twosome (Antonio Bryant) from last year. Bryant went bye bye but for some stupid and strange reason Northcutt stayed..Why?
HE IS NOT A VETERAN LEADER!
As far as Anderson is concerned, all you need to do is watch him and compare his vision, arm strength, and size (6′-6″), and you can see that he has a good chance of taking the starting QB position. He also protects the football.
That Crap that Edwards said that Anderson throws a tighter spiral, so what! The football is shaped the same and if yu use your hands to catch the ball then a tighter spiral is easier to catch.
I have one question for all of you guys and women out there. Have any of you heard in the last couple of years a receiver described as having “soft hands”. I heard he has good speed; good leaping ability, blocks well (none of the Browns), runs routes well, but not once have I heard the phrase “soft hands”.
When I played high school QB, we did a drill where the receiver had his back to the QB and a coach in front of him. The coach would point to where he wanted the ball thrown and then he would tell the receiver while it was in the air (right side low, left side high, bullet or lob). The receiver would then have to react, find and catch the ball and in some case get his body in front of the coach. There was none of this wait for the ball to get to the body CRAP, that I am tired of seeing Professional receivers do. USE YOUR HANDS, CATCH THE BALL, AND SHUT-UP!
Watch Hines Ward (when he comes back) if you want to see a great receiver. doesn’t have great speed, runs routes well, and catches anything that he can get his HANDS ON.
Ditto Kessler,
my favorite was the offside blitzer that still got to the running back from behind. Two things that it points out, our line can not even SLOW onrushing blitzers, and our running backs are so slow they can’t even outrun a DB who is 5 yards behind them, It’s pitiful how many times the Steelers had an unblocked man in our backfield, even without blitzes. It’s also p[itiful to only have 16-18 yards rushing for an entire game. I think you and I and a three year old could get more yardage than that.
