The Cleveland Browns have relied on the defense to keep them in every game this year. Today, the offense gave the Browns a lead and the defense couldn’t hold it. Cleveland jumped out to an early 13- 3 lead on a rainy day in Cleveland Stadium.
The Steelers went to a no-huddle offense in the fourth quarter and scored twice to beat the Browns 24-20. Pittsburgh overcame turnovers, a loud crowd and terrible weather to beat the Browns in a rivalry that is losing interest each year. Romeo Crennel is making progress, but it’s at a very slow pace.

This team does not know how to adjust at the half. I blame coaching for this loss. Why dont we wait for 3rd down to throw to the endzone when we are in the redzone?? Prevent defense should be outlawed by the NFL cause its pointless! I am getting pretty sick of going into ultra-conservative mode when we have a lead!! We let teams back into the game & don’t put them away & thats why this team is never gonna win anything!! JUST THINK OF ALL THE GAMES THIS TEAM HAS BLOWN SINCE THEY CAME BACK IN 99!!!! We are the most patient fans in the world. I need to start doing something else on Sundays!!!
Yes, the defense choked this game away. But look at what a joke the NFL has become because of its ridiculous rules. Roethlisberger would have been deemed in the grasp years ago instead of being allowed to throw the ball away. The hit on Hines Ward for the behind the collar one was equally ridiculous. But the fact that no refs call 5 yard face-masks anymore is a joke. Wimbley got Ben by the mask, no doubt about it. But how is it flagrant when he caught the face mask accidentally???? All of those plays led to the Steelers 2nd to last score, which should have been a FG instead of a TD without the ridiculous officiating.
I’m so sick of the fact that players can’t hit the QB any more.
All that said, congrats to the Steelers - they’re moronic fans will think that they are now making a “playoff run.” They beat one of the NFL’s doormat teams and took 59:00 to do it. They’re nearly as pathetic as the Browns.
I’ve seen enough Charlie Frye.
i have to completely disagree to fault this loss on the defense.
THE OFFENSE DID NOTHING. and that is fact.
our 2 touchdowns came from a returned kcik by cribbs and an interception returned for a touchdown.
the offense managed to field goals. PATHETIC. THEY COULDN’T EVEN GET THE BALL IN THE END ZONE ONCE.
DON’T LAY THIS LOSS ON THE DEFENSE. THE OFFENSE DID NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING.
sorry about the typos in the previous post…
ANYHOW, one more thing, i was a big supporter of replacing carthon with davidson, but obviously today it made ZERO difference.
Tough day. They had a chance to beat a better team at home and they couldn’t hold on. Early in the game the offense did a good job, but the fumble and the missed field goal killed them. I don’t agree that Davidson had no imact this week. They ran the ball fairly well even without Droughns, and the shotgun formation will bcome more productive as the players get more comfortable with it.
Wimbley looked like a beast today. The Browns got a really tough break when he accidently hit Ben R’s facemask and got a 15-yard penalty. The pressure on the QB is getting better.
Cowher deserves credit for going with the no-huddle early. The Browns seem to be vulnerable to this and it gave his offense a huge spark.
I still saw some progress. Given the problems early in the season, I’ll take this for now. Besides, the Buckeyes beat Michigan, so I’m more willing to be patient with the Browns.
i hear ya G, and pretty much agree with what you are saying.
i just really pissed that the offense couldn’t put the ball in the end zone just one time. i don’t care who we are playing, there is never an excuse for not scoring at least one offensive touchdown in 60 minutes…
Terrible clock management at the end of the half, it costs us a field goal attemped!! I am also sick of this offense playing for the field goal intead of trying for the touchdown!! 1st & 2nd & Goal from the 9 and we run it twice & then throw on 3rd & goal!!!?? That has been our problem all year (not taking shots to the endzone) If you don’t have faith in Charlie to make a play then he shouldn’t be your QB!!!
The offense did not look that much better than last year’s 41-0 loss. 9 points with KW2, Winslow and a 2nd year Frye?! But you win and lose as a team and KW2 stiffarm of Porter into the ground made me as happy as OSU winning Saturday.
I loved the Winslow play as well.
As for the red zone, Davidson has argued that the best red zone teams are those that demonstrate they can run in the red zone. He is determined to stick with the run down there in order to develope this capability on the Browns. There will be growing pains, but in the long run it will make them a better offense.
I don’t know what to say anymore…..I was as mad as I have been all year when the Steelers scored on that shuffle play. Reason being is that it seemed as though when we really needed a play we did not get it done.
The Wright fumble
The missed interception by Jones
Allowing W. Parker to walk into the end zone for the game winner
Freaking Braylon just not grabbing the ball at the end of the game…..
The missed field goal by Dawson
Allowing Ben all day to find Rookie Holmes after he has made two adjustments on his route to get open and score a TD
Not sacking Ben when we had the chance
Wimbley facemask
I mean this is enough for some teams all year..I just rattled off these from one game, and I can do this for every game.
It is time that these so called great skilled athletes start stepping up and make plays. Remember C. Frye was drafted not to make mistakes and get the ball to the play makers. Not to be Montana, Elway or even Kosar. To many wasted opportunities. That is why we are 3-7. There is at least 3 other games where one play from one of these playmakers would have changed the game. Instead we will point thge finger at Frye, the o-line, coaches, Lerner, the refs, the weather, my dog, your dog, Modell, OIC, you name it…….where are the playmakers…..not the guy that rattles off stats the playmakers! Our so called 3rd pick overall had a chance to win the game instead he could not just grab the ball when it was in front of him. I guarantee one thing, if that was the same situation when he was of U of M, against the Buckeyes he would have caught it.
Also I realized that Droughns needs to go he is too slow, our smaller backs are more effective because they hit the hole quicker. With Droughns he takes 5 seconds to get to our pathetic offensive line, then he runs into our o line, because he has the vision of Stevie Wonder
Don’t get me wrong Wright is the wrong answer, but we need to get a good strong fast RB, who has some sort of vision.
I want wins……..No more we are youthful, no more we have come a long way, no more “Well we did a lot better”.
These excuses are for Losers…..Winners go home and f_ _ _ the prom queen! (Sean Connery in the Rock)
Iam out
Once Again,
the Browns snatch defeat from victory. I agree with Rich that the prevent defense should be outlawed, at least from this team. Every time the Browns use that strategy, they lose even back in the 80’s. I agree that the Defense could not be faulted for the first drive after the runback by Cribbs as they had just been out there on an 11 play drive. However, what about the last drive, there was certainly plenty of time to rest there. Another key was the turnovers that led to no scoring, you have to go for the jugular right away. When you outgain the opposing team 2/1 in the first half, you need to lead by more than 10-0. Still the D gave up 3 points in the first three quarters then gave up 21 in about 14 minutes. So to recap, blame the offense for no offensive TD’s, blame the defense for 21 points in 14 minutes, and blame the coaching for PREVENT DEFENSE and not going for the jugular early.
Just as bad as the prevent defense is the “prevent offense” the Browns have instilled 3 times during the past month: 1) yesterday they don’t execute in the 2nd half on offense, 2) the Jets game we had to hang on for dear life and have the help of the refs to avoid OT, and 3) the Atlanta game we barely hung on.
If we’re winning by double digits, DO WHAT GOT YOU TO THAT POINT!!! Don’t try running out the clock in the early 3rd quarter. That’s how we’re letting teams back in the game.
I’ve really reached my breaking point. I can’t root for this team if this continues. And I sure as HELL am not paying a dime for their merchandise and tickets for such an inferior product.

What offense? The offense did’nt score a touchdown!!!!
Did yall expect them to win? Tell me that when the 4th qtr started, yall said that they will win this? The Browns should be all defense. They should have 51 defensive players, that rotate through out the game, and when they get the ball, they should punt it away on 1st down. This team would be so much better that way, the defense would never get tired. That way the 14 pts, that the defense and special teams scored would’ve been good enough to win the game. The Steelers wouldn’t have scored against a fresh defense. Get rid of the offense, and let the defense play the whole game.
