The Cleveland Indians wasted no time in picking up the options of Jake Westbrook and Casey Blake. This news coming along with the not surprising news that Aaron Boone has been released. Westbrook is a strong pitcher that Cleveland should contemplate signing to a multi-year deal. Blake came back strong this year after struggling all of last season.
The Indians will now concentrate on building their bullpen to make a run at the pennant next year. This search will hopefully be done with a new manager.

New Manager?
What have you been smoking Bob?
New Manager??? Absolutely Yes!!!! It’s beyond question. Buck Showalter is now available. Don’t try to tell me he wouldn’t be a MAJOR upgrade over Eric Wedge. I know, I know–Wedge is already signed for next year–and the Dolan’s won’t think of paying him for not managing. That’s the real problem–they aren’t able to put out the money to field a legitimate contender. As long as Wedge is the manager, I promise you, we will be on the outside looking in come playoff time. Don’t think the manager makes that much difference??? Just look at Detriot…
Bob, I know you want a new manager. So do I, but it is not coming anytime soon. This team will be clearly defined by how the offseason turns out. Not only do we need a new closer, but a setup man. Bob Howry was only demanding $4million but dolan, sharpiro thought $7 million would be better spent on Paul Bryd. I agree that wedge is not the greatest manager by any means, but he is not to blame for this 78-win team in 2006, at least not completely.
Showalter is a terrible manager. I don’t want him.
I’m not thrilled with Wedge, but I agree with Vegas Vic - Shapiro made some huge mistkaes and that’s what really cost us this year.
Giradi!, Giradi!….won’t happen but saying it helps relieve some of the pain from this year.
Although history has proven that the team that hires Buck Showalter and then fires him wins the World Series the next year. Hmmmmmm.
