Browns trade Davis to Patriots
The Browns traded wide receiver Andre’ Davis to the New England Patriots for an undisclosed draft pick. ESPN is reporting that the pick is a fifth-rounder in the 2006 draft.
The move seems to make sense for the Browns, though I would have liked to see them get a 4th or 3rd round pick. With the emergence of Antonio Bryant and the selection of Braylon Edwards, the Browns are in great shape at the wide receiver position. Dennis Northcutt also gives them a very good third receiver and Josh Cribbs looks excellent as the new kickoff returner.

I still don’t know why the Browns were so eager to move Davis, at least at this point. His value was at an all-time low and we’ve all seen how productive he can be. It’s always nice to pick up an extra draft pick but, like you said, a third or fourth would’ve been nice. It seems like the Browns gave Davis away by getting a fifth in return.
Couple of things to keep in mind – I think Davis is a free agent after next season. Also, as a second round pick, it probably helps to remove his contract given that he’ll be the fourth receiver at best.
It wasn’t a great trade, but a fifth rounder isn’t too bad.
